A Thousand Splendid Suns is a 2007 novel by the author of "THE KITE RUNNER" , Khaled Hosseini. The novel is all about the suppression of women in Afghanistan , a strong sense of love between child and father and bond of love between two women .Women were forced to marry and to wear burka ,even some are not allowed to have proper education also.They are living in terror. Through the story contains female protagonists, Laila and Mariam, Hosseini exposes the suffering of women in Afghanistan under fundamentalist Islamic governments such as theTaliban .Mariam is madly devoted to her father when she is young, and he is very fond of her as well.but he is a weak and coward man man who does not stand up to his three wives, so Mariam turns against him. On the other side Laila’s father also loves her and wants to make sure she receives a good education.In novel women show strong bond of relation which provide them strength and sipport for each other .Mariam never would have gained the strength to fight Rasheed if she had not gained confidence and love from Laila. 


So the story begins with Mariam ,a young girl who lives outskirts of city Herat in Afganistan with her mother Nana. His father Jalil , a wealthy businessman lives in the town with his three wives and children. Mariam  is his illegitimate daughter so she and her mother are not allowed to live with Jalil family. Jalil use to visit her weekly. Mariam wants her father to take her to see Pinocchio at his movie theater, whereas her mother don't want . When Jalil fails to meet her, Mariam walks alone to the city.But He refuses to see her, and she ends up sleeping on the street .On her return she discovers that Nana has killed herself.Jalil takes Mariam into his home. Jalil arranges for her to be married to Rasheed, a shoemaker from Kabul who is thirty-years her senior as his three wives wish to get rid of her permanently. In Kabul, Mariam becomes pregnant seven successive times, but is never able to carry a child to term. This is a sad, disquieting reality for both Rasheed and Mariam. Ultimately Rasheed attitude changes towards his wife and use to beat her . On the other side Laila ,daughter of Hakim and Fariba. She loves her close friend Tariq living in her neighbourhood and have relationship with him.Fariba blaming Hakim for sending his two son to go on jihad against invading Soviets and even they were killed.War comes to Afghanistan, and Kabul is bombarded by rocket attacks. Tariq's family decides to leave the city, and he promised Laila he will come back .After some days  Laila's family also decides to leave Kabul, but while they are packing a rocket destroys the house, killed Fariba and Hakim and injured Laila,who was then taken by Rashid at his home.
After recovering from her injuries, Laila discovers that she is pregnant with Tariq's child and she came to know that Tariq had died by Abdul Sharif . She agrees to marry Rasheed, a man who get attracted by herand hopes for child too. When Laila gives birth to a daughter, Aziza, Rasheed is unhappy and become suspicious about her pregnancy and become abusive towards Laila. After some sometime she give birth to Rasheed's son Zalmai till then Mariam and Laila eventually become  best friends. They plan to run away from Rasheed and leave Kabul but are caught at the bus station. Rasheed beats them and made beg them for food for several days which almost killing Aziza. The Taliban has risen to power and imposed harsh rules on the Afghan population, prohibiting women from appearing in public without a male relative.There is poor condition of peoplein Kabul. Rasheed's workshop burns down, and he is forced to take jobs for which he is ill-suited. He decides to send  Aziza to an orphanage.Laila use to visit her daughter so one day he found Tariq and they both decide to reunite at her home. Laila realizes that Rasheed had hired Abdul Sharif to inform her about Tariq's fake death, so that he could marry her. When Rasheed returns home from work, Zalmai tells his father about the visitor. Rasheed starts to beat Laila with belt nearly kill her. Mariam saves her by interfere in between and kills Rasheed . Mariam decides that she will confesses her crime of killing  Rasheed so that Laila will go with Tariq. She asked  Laila and Tariq to leave for Pakistan with Aziza and Zalmai . They spend their days working at a guest house in Murree. After the fall of the Taliban, Laila and Tariq return to Afghanistan. They stop in the village where Mariam was raised, and discover a package that Mariam's father left behind for her, a videotape of Pinocchio, a small sack of money, and a letter. Laila reads the letter and discovers that Jalil had regretted sending Mariam away. Laila and Tariq return to Kabul and use the money to fix up the orphanage, where Laila starts working as a teacher. Laila is pregnant with her third child, and decides if it is a girl, Laila named her Mariam.

The Great Gatsby

The Great Gatsby is a novel by author F. Scott Fitzgerald.The story primarily concerns the young and mysterious millionaire Jay Gatsby and his passion and obsession for the beautiful former debutante Daisy Buchanan.He  resorting to crime to make enough money to impress her, and the flourishing materialism that characterizes her lifestyle.Fitzgerald portrays the 1920s as an era of decayed social and moral values, evidenced in its overarching cynicism, greed, and empty pursuit of pleasure. According to  Fitzgerald ,the American dream was originally about discovery, individualism, and the pursuit of happiness.

Nick Carraway ,a narrator who is young and Yale graduated from the MidWest. He takes a job as a salesman in New York. He rents a house in the West Egg district of Long Island, a wealthy but unfashionable area and next door to the lavish mansion of Jay Gatsby, a mysterious millionaire who throws party each weekend at his ostentatious Gothic mansion in West Egg but does not participate in them. Once Nick drives out to East Egg one evening for dinner with his cousin, Daisy Buchanan, and her husband, Tom,an former classmate of Nick’s at Yale. Nick meets Jordan Baker ,an attractive, cynical young golfer.Both involved in romantic relationship. She reveals to Nick that Tom has been having an affair with Myrtle Wilson, who lives in the "valley of ashes": an industrial dumping ground between West Egg and New York City. Nick travels to New York City with Tom and Myrtle to an apartment they keep for their affair. At the apartment, a vulgar and bizarre party takes place. It ends abruptly when Tom breaking Myrtle's nose after she annoys him by saying Daisy's name several times.

As the summer progresses, Nick receives an invitation to one of Gatsby’s legendary parties where he encounters Jordan Baker and both meets Gatsby ,a young man who affects an English accent, has a remarkable smile, and calls everyone “old sport.” Later Nick came to know from Jordan that Gatsby knew Daisy in Louisville in 1917 and is deeply in love with her. He spends many nights in hoping that one day he will rekindle his lost love.Nick find that those parties are an attempt to impress Daisy in the hope that she will one day appear again.Gatsby asks Nick to arrange a meeting between himself and Daisy but he was afraid that Daisy may refuse to see him.So Nick invites her without telling her about Gatsby.After that meeting Daisy and Gatsby begin an affair but after a short time Tom grows suspicious of his wife's affair. At the lunch at the Buchanan's house, Tom realized that Gatsby is in love with Daisy and although Tom is himself having an affair, he is furious at the thought that his wife could be unfaithful to him. He forces the group to drive into the city in a suite at the Plaza Hotel where Tom and Gatsby have a bitter confrontation. Tom denounces Gatsby for his low birth,and reveals that his  fortune comes from illegal activities like bootlegging alcohol.

Daisy's real allegiance is to Tom because when Gatsby begs her to say that she does not love her husband, she refuses him.Tom permits Gatsby to drive Daisy back to East Egg, in this way, he displays his contempt for Gatsby.When Nick, Jordan, and Tom drive through the valley of ashes on their way home, they discover that Gatsby's car has struck and killed Tom's mistress, Myrtle. Nick later came to know that Daisy was driving the car at the time of the accident but Gatsby intends to take the blame anyway.

George Wilson, Mysrtle's husband became mad by the death of his wife, is desperate to find her killer and came to know from Tom that car driver was her secret lover and he is Gatsby .After finding out the yellow car is Gatsby's, he arrives at Gatsby's mansion where he fatally shoots both Gatsby and then himself. After the murder, the Buchanans leave town to distance themselves from the violence for which they are responsible.Nick is left to organize Gatsby's funeral, but finds that few people cared for Gatsby.Nick seeks out Gatsby's father, Henry Gatz, and brings him to New York for the funeral. From Henry, Nick learns the full scope of Gatsby's visions of greatness and his dreams of self-improvement. Nick moves back to the Midwest, disillusioned with the Eastern lifestyle.He realized that greed and dishonesty have corrupted people .

Da vinci code

Da Vinci Code is a mystery-detective and a literary-fiction novel by Dan Brown.The central idea of novel is that the Church has enforced ignorance about the existence of the descendants of Jesus .Its all about reality behind Church and art history and also ignores the power of women.The novel is giving reincarnation to the past stories of Jesus's life,the pentacle and the Last Supper. Da Vinci Code has give rise to speculate the Holy Grail legend and Mary Magdalene's  role in the history of Chrisianity.The idea that Jesus Christ and Mary Magdalene were married and had a child,deciphering the symbols found in many works of art .The whole story revolve around the  finding of the murder victim in the Grand Gallery of the Louvre of Jacques Sauniere, naked and posed like Leonardo da Vinci's famous drawing, the Vitruvian Man, with a cryptic message written beside his body and a pentagram drawn on his chest in his own blood.

Harvard Professor Robert Langdon, who visited town on business issue was asked by Police detective Bezu Fache to decode the cryptic message left on murdered body. Last night Louvre ,the keeper of church and Grand Master Jacques Saunière fatally shot one night at the museum by an albino Catholic monk named Silas,who wants the location of the keystone,which will helps in finding the Holy Grail is .Before going to die Sauniere leaves a message i.e he paints a pentacle on his stomach with his own blood, draws a circle with his blood, and drags himself into the center of the circle, re-creating the position of Da Vinci’s Vitruvian Man. He also leaves a code, a fibonacci sequence, and two lines of text on the ground in invisible ink.
Sophie Neveu, an agent of the department of cryptology,secretly explains to Langdon that she is Saunière's estranged granddaughter, and that Fache thinks Langdon is the murderer, because her grandfather's message said "PS Find Robert Langdon", which she says Fache had erased prior to Langdon's arrival.But actually according to Neveu, P.S. are the initials of her grandfather’s nickname for her,Princesse Sophie whereas Langdon thinks that P.S. might stand for Priory of Sion,an ancient brotherhood devoted to the preservation of the pagan goddess worship tradition.Langdon decodes the second and third lines in Saunière’s message: “Leonardo Da Vinci! The Mona Lisa!.By this Sophie returns to the paintings to look for another clue. Sophie finds a key behind the Madonna of the Rocks.
She and Langdon escapes from police and move to a safe deposit box at the Paris branch of the Depository Bank of Zurich. In the safe deposit vault they find the keystone: a cryptex, a cylindrical, hand-held vault with five concentric, rotating dials labeled with letters. When these are lined up correctly, they unlock the device. If the cryptex is open forcely, an enclosed vial of vinegar ruptures and dissolves the message inside the cryptex. The cryptex can only be opened with a password.
Langdon went his friend Sir Leigh Teabing, an expert on the Holy Grail ,to ask for his help for opening the box and tell that Grail is not a cup but a tomb having bones of  Mary Magdalene. All the three find out that the password is combination of letters "SOFIA" Neveu' name and after   Opening the cryptex, they found a smaller cryptex inside it, along with another riddle that ultimately leads to the tomb of Isaac Newton in Westminster Abbey.
All the three flee from the country ,during the flight Neveu reveals the source of her estrangement from her grandfather.Once on arriving home from university, Neveu clandestinely witnesses a spring fertility rite conducted in the secret basement of her grandfather's house. She got shocked to see her grandfather having sex with a woman at the center of a ritual attended by men and women who are wearing masks and chanting praise to the goddess. She flees the house and breaks off all contact with Saunière. Langdon explains that what she witnessed was an ancient ceremony known as "sacred marriage".By the time they arrived they revealed that Teabing is the teacher for whom Silas was working .Teabing gives Langdon the cryptex and asks Langdon and Sophie to help him open it. Langdon figures out that the password is apple. He opens the cryptex and secretly removes its contents before destroying it in front of Teabing. Fache arrested Teabing and came to know that Langdon is innocence .
The final message inside the second keystone  revealed that Neveu is a descendant of Jesus Christ and Mary Magdalene. The Priory of Sion hid her identity to protect her from possible threats to her life. Neveu and Langdon find out Neveu's long-lost brother, whom Neveu had been told died as a child in the car accident that killed her parents and also his long-lost grandmother Marie Chauvel Saint Clair.
The meaning of the last message is that the Grail is buried beneath the small pyramid where he is sure the Grail must be hidden. 

The fountain Head

The fountain Head, one of the major novel of Ayn Rand. The fountain head is all about the individualistic and collectivism.One man against the system and each person is expected to think primarily about himself and to live primarily for himself. Here Rand had showed two characters foils one works for success by using immoral and other works for excellence. Howard Roark ,a protagonist of novel, a architect who defines integrity by architecture rather than a person whereas Peter Keating who is untalented rabble  and naysayers  can do any immoral to get success. Roark who does not put on manners, or false flattery, or false dislike in order to impress others with a false designs. He believes to practice modern architecture which is superior and more elegant than other traditional buildings. He was suffered many times as he refuses to comply with what other people think of as good, he has his own ideas and does not give merit to others' ideas because someone else thought of them.Rand demonstrates that there is no such thing as love of humanity but there is only love of individuals. One thing about novel is Power, it says  "a man who goes after power" is the "worst second-hander of all" a person living for the power he has over other men, a person gives all those people power over himself.

The novel begins as Howard Roark is expelled from Stanton as he refused to follow the school's orthodoxy and Peter Keating graduates who is vacuous student but popular as Roark used to help him out in his projects.They both go to New York City to begin their careers ,Keating to a firm with a good reputation, Francon & Heyer,  and Roark to work with a man that he knows understands his mission, Henry Cameron. At first, Keating is the successful one; he climbs high in his firm by pushing out those whose positions he wants, and gains commissions for his firm and last he became partner.

 Ellsworth Toohey, a journalist in charge of many organizations in the city, praises Keating highly whereas Roark, on the other hand, cannot get work because he refuses to compromise and put useless features on his buildings . Toohey used to say that Roark's style is unorthodox and illegitimate. Roark goal is to stick with his own design and strives to make structures more efficient. He must get a job in a quarry owned by Guy Francon, doing manual labor. There he meets Dominique Francon, starts a love affair with her that is painful for both of them. Dominique knows that Roark is great men who cannot be recognized for his great work so she rejects Roark and praises Keating .She offers Keating for marriage. Dominique turns her entire spirit over to Keating.

Though Keating being success but also he became empty,so to have a prestigous commission by Gail Wynand, the owner and editor-in-chief of the Banner, Dominique agrees to sleep with Wynand. When they meet, Wynand is so strongly attracted to Dominique that he planned  Keating's divorce from her, and Wynand and Dominique are married.Wynand wants to build house for himself and Dominique so he discovers that every building he likes was designed by Roark, therefore he enlists Roark to build the new house. Roark and Wynand become close friends, although Wynand does not know about Roark's past relationship with Dominique.

Keating takes Roark help to design as he had lost his sense to design the Cortlandt Homes and he accepts on the condition that he will have complete control over design and construction. But, the homes are not built as Roark wished, so Roark dynamites the project as it is being completed. He stands trial and is found not guilty.He and Dominique come together and leave Wynand.  Wynand closes the paper anyway, and asks Roark to build the Wynand Building, as they had discussed when they were friends. Howard Roark, the hero of the Fountainhead, triumphs.

The murder of Roger Ackroyd

The Murder of Roger Ackroyd is a detective fiction by Agatha Christie. It is one of Christie's controversial novel.It based on the most elegant of all twists, the narrator who is himself to be the murderer. There are no scenes of violence instead, the novel primarily features characters having civilized discussions and attending social gatherings. Every character in The Murder of Roger Ackroyd has a secret, and because of that everyone comes into danger of investigation.The novel moves all around the murder of Ackroyd.

Dr. James Sheppard,who narrated a novel and he is a physician in the town of King’s Abbott. The story begins with the death of Mrs. Ferrars, a wealthy widow. Many people in town believe Mrs. Ferrars poisoned her husband a year before and due to guilt she commited suicide. On the other side Roger Ackroyd, the town’s wealthiest citizen who was expected to marry Mrs. Ferrars was in great distressed. Once he invites all his close people for dinner party,to discuss some important issue i.e Dr. Sheppard , Mrs. Cecil Ackroyd, Roger’s sister-in-law, Flora Ackroyd, his niece (who recently got engaged to Ackroyd’s stepson Ralph Paton), Geoffrey Raymond, Ackroyd’s young secretary, and Major Blunt, Ackroyd’s friend. Deeply worried, Ackroyd finally has a private discussion with Dr. Sheppard after dinner. In his study, he reveals to Dr. Sheppard that  Mrs. Ferrars killed her husband, and she was also blackmailed for it. Ackroyd receives a letter, a suicide note, in the post from Mrs Ferrars, which he will finish reading after Sheppard leaves. On the way home Dr. Sheppard ,he bumps into  a stranger who aks for directions to Fernly Park. At home, Dr. Sheppard and his sister Caroline are about to go to bed when the phone rings. He explains to Caroline that Parker has called from Fernly Park to tell him that Ackroyd has been murdered. Dr. Sheppard rushes over, but when he gets there Parker says he never made such a call.Nonetheless, they break into Ackroyd’s locked study and find him murdered in his chair.

The next day, Flora Ackroyd call the retired Belgian detective Hercule Poirot,Dr. Sheppard’s new neighbor,  to investigate the murder.As Flora is worried that the police suspect Ralph Paton (Flora's feonsay)for killing her uncle. The police have found footprints matching a pair of shoes that Ralph owned outside the window to Ackroyd’s study, and at 9:30 pm , Major Blunt and Geoffrey Raymond both  informed that Ackroyd speaking to someone in his office. Placing Ackroyd's death into a narrow time frame for which Parker, Raymond, Blunt, Mrs Ackroyd, and Miss Russell, the housekeeper, all have alibis . Although all members of Ackroyd’s household will have financial gain from his death, in that Ralph especially will have the bulk of his uncle’s fortune. Police trace the telephone call to Dr Sheppard to King's Abbott station and the position of a grandfather chair in Ackroyd’s office, which had been moved into the center of the room when Dr. Sheppard and Parker found the body. Poirot proceeds to collect more information on suspects not in the house, including the representative of a dictaphone company who had visited Ackroyd some days previously. He asks the exact time at which Dr Sheppard met the stranger at the Fernly Park gates. Poirot finds a goose quill and a scrap of starched cambric in the summer house, and a ring with the inscription "From R" in the backyard pool. Poirot notices that the parlourmaid Ursula Bourne has no alibi for the murder.

  The police, meanwhile, have tracked down the stranger ,Charles Kent who approached Fernly Park the night of the murder and arrest him.Meanwhile, Poirot came to know  that Flora lied about wishing her uncle goodnight instead, she had been busy in stealing money to settle some debts of her own and revealed that Major Blunt is  secret lover of Flora and  Flora and Ralph Paton are not really in love, but merely engaged for convenience’s sake.Poirot asks for a second  meeting in that the goose quill is a heroin holder belonging to the stranger Sheppard met , Miss Russell's illegitimate son Charles Kent .Poirot reveals the ring belongs to Ursula Bourne, who is secretly married to Ralph Paton and they met around 9:30 in the summerhouse and fought about his announced engagement to Flora Ackroyd.

Poirot summons all the suspects once again and reveals all these discoveries. He further reveals that he has determined Ackroyd purchased a dictaphone the week before and that is what Raymond and Blunt heard  Ackroyd was talking to someone at 9:30. He then reveals Ralph Paton, who Dr. Sheppard had been hiding him by pretending a patient in a local asylum.  Ralph admits that he fought with Ursula in the summerhouse, then walked around, frustrated. He does not have an alibi for the time of the murder.

He discharges the group, but asks Dr. Sheppard to stay behind. In a stunning plot twist, Poirot reveals that it is Dr. Sheppard who is the murderer. Sheppard  programmed the Dictaphone to go off at 9:30 and stabbed Ackroyd before leaving him that night,provide him with an alibi, then snuck around the side of the house, crawled into Ackroyd’s study, locked it from the inside, and planted the footprints with Ralph’s shoes in the mud. He hid Ralph so that the police would find him more suspicious. He murdered Ackroyd because it was he, Dr. Sheppard, who was Mrs. Ferrars’ blackmailer, and he knew if Ackroyd found out he would be ruined.  
Poirot will go to the police in the morning, and hoping that Poirot can keep the truth from his sister Caroline, Dr. Sheppard goes home and prepares to kill himself with an overdose of Veronal.

Train to Pakistan

Train to Pakistan is the novel by Khushwant Singh. The novel is all about the Partition of India after 1947 . India got Independence in 1947 from British rules but actually they didn't get independence from communal riots and also from religious hatred that are inside themselves.Its all about the DIVISION .There was a great tension near border of Inda and Pakistan.The novel give clear image of  massacres of Hindus and Muslims, especially on the border towns of India.
Train loads of dead bodies used to arrive from Pakistan to India and from India to Pakistan.People were killed without mercy.Women and girls are ruthlessly gang-raped.After reading this we will find out that blame could not be on one group, actually all are responsible. Muslims said the Hindus had planned and started the killing. Hindus said, the Muslims were to blame. The fact is, both sides killed ,shot,looted and raped.

The Story is of village Mano Majra, the border of both the country where great religious diversity Hindus,Muslims and Sikhs lived side by side happily.Even mulla of Mosque Imam Baksh visit Gurudwara whenever needed and similarly Sikh's priest Meet Singh too .So the story starts with dacoity and murder of local money-lender , Lal Ram Lal .The dacoits were the Malli and gang  ,who were looking for their old fellow gang member and leader Juggut Singh, a Sikh of great height, build and with a bad reputation and Malli throw bangles in Juggut Singh house. During the event of "dacoit", however, "Jugga" was making love with his girlfriend, Nooran, the daughter of the town's Mullah Imam Baksh. After dacoity, Imran Singh ,well-educated,social reformer arrived in town to organize the peasants for the People's Party of India. Malli and his gang try to pin the crime on Jugga, which results in the arrests of both Iqbal and Jugga due to local suspicions. They are arrested due to the orders of Hukum Chand, the corrupt,unethical regional magistrate.One day people saw the train from Pakistan loaded with dead bodies and burned by soldier. So conflict starts to rise in Mano Majra too like other towns and cities.On the order of Hukum Chand a group of soldiers comes by to evacuate the Muslim half of town (the other half is Sikh) to Pakistan which leads Nooran to depart from Mano Majra .After the Muslims are evacuated, a local band of Sikhs and Malli with group come to Mano Majra to full up anti-Muslim sentiment and sabotage the train that was taking the Muslims to Pakistan.When Hukum Chand came to know about this sabotage of train ,he filledvwith guilt over his own sins, releases both Iqbal and Jugga to stop the killing, and despite Iqbal's self-image as a social reformer and Jugga's self-image as a dacoit, Iqbal drinks himself into a stupor while Jugga gives his life destroying the rope the Sikh soldiers had set up to throw Muslims on top of the train off to their deaths.

The Zahir

The Zahir is novel by Paulo Coelho .Its all about obsession,love,marriage and Zahir ,Arabic meaning incapable of going unnoticed .In book Zahir is Esther ,narrator's wife. Coelho compares marriage with a set of railway tracks which stay together forever but fail to come any closer and question by railway tracks are 4 feet 8 ½ inches apart. The novel is all about journey of a dormant marriage and increasing true love between two souls.


The story starts unnamed narrator get suspect as his wife got missing so the police and the press ,thought he would be behind in disappearance of  his wife, Esther. The narrator was unable to figure out where she had gone.Thinking is she abducted or demolished their marriage.The unnamed narrator of this story is a wildly successful novelist and celebrity who lives in Paris with his wife Esther.The police and the press suspect him as his wife got missing.When Esther disappears,narrator is getting tormented by the mystery of what has happened to her .Is she abducted or demolished or their marriage in search for another love?. Their marriage has hit a dry spot and she is restless, wanting to move on in search of her own happiness.The last person Esther come in contact with Mikhail, so narrator start searching for him. From Mikhail he found Mikhail that Esther, who had been a war correspondent against the wishes of her husband (the protagonist), had left in a search for peace, as she had trouble living with her husband.So author realizes that first his self then Esther and for him Zahir is Esther. So Mikhail helps him to explore his mission of spreading love by holding sessions in hotels and homeless people living on the streets.Spreading love is not only by saying your love story but the worst truth of their love and marriages. MiIkhail also tells him about the voices he hear from his childhood (Kazakhstan ) but people used to think its a epileptic .As narrator was so frequent in falling in love with any women and his current love Marie,who warns about Mikhail. She always wants narrator to search his Zahir. So Mikhail told him story that Esther had helped him to travel from Kazakhstan to France as a journalist she needs his help to cross the border on foot as her visa was turned down.So Narrator suspects that she may be in Kazakhstan.So he decides to travel Kazakhstan with Mikhail ,and he goes to places where his wife worked, meets the people she met and discovers that she used to hand out pieces of blood-stained cloth from a soldier’s uniform only to certain people. The Zahir ,knows ourself than others  and revive lost love. This is all about love of oneself, of nature, of humanity, and of the beloved.

Alchemist

Alchemist is one of the beautiful novel by author Paulo Coelho .The book is all about the essential wisdom of following to your heart and read the omens strewn along life's to reach your dream or destiny.The story is all about a shepherd boy from Andalusia who saw dreams of travelling the Egypt in search of a treasure.The author eloquently narrates whole story by saying "when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it" .Novel is blend of spirituality,inspirational,realism and magical.Last but not the least relationships should never hinder the passionate pursuance of a dream.

A shepherd boy name Santiago who lives in Andalusia .One day, as part of his life as a shepherd, he went to a village to sell some wool from his sheep. In that village he knew of a gypsy woman who could interpret dreams so he went to her as he had experienced a weird dream that he will find  a hidden treasure if he travel to Pyramids of Egypt. The gypsy woman told him to go and he will find a great treasure that is destined for him.Santiago uncertain aboutit .Next he meets a mysterious man , Melchizedek, or the King of Salem ,surprising thing is that he offers to help Santiago find the hidden treasure in exchange for one-tenth of his sheep.The one great truth on this planet is that  when you really want something, the desire originated in the soul of the universe." Fulfilling that desire, which means fulfilling your Personal Legend, is everyone's purpose, Melchizedek explains. He tells Santiago about good and bad omens and says that it is the shepherd boy's duty to pursue his Personal Legend. Melchizedek then gives Santiago two stones, Urim and Thummim, with which to interpret omens.

Santiago hesitate  before selling his flock . Shortly after he arrives  Tangier, a city in northern Morocco, a thief steals all of Santiago's money, so the shepherd boy decides to look for a way to make enough money to return home. He finds work in the shop of a crystal merchant, where Santiago helps him financial and give great idea to improve his business . After 11 months he was ready to travel.
Santiago meets an Englishman who wants to learn the secret of alchemy, or turning any metal into gold, from a famous alchemist who lives at an oasis on the way to the pyramids. While traveling, Santiago begins listening to the desert and discovering the Soul of the World. The caravan eventually reaches the oasis, and  caravan leader gathers the travelers together as due to war they can't continue their journey there Santiago meets an Arab girl named Fatima and falls in love with her instantly.Santiago asks Fatima to marry him, but she insists that he seek out his Personal Legend before they marry.

Santiago seeing two hawks fighting in the sky, has a vision of an army entering the oasis as attacking an oasis is a violation of the rules of the desert, Santiago talks about  his vision with the oasis's tribal chieftain. Soon afterward, Santiago is confronted by a black-garbed, veiled stranger with a sword, who sits atop a white horse. It is the alchemist. The tribal chieftain arms his men, and they are well-prepared when the oasis is indeed invaded. The alchemist offers to cross the desert with Santiago.As Santiago learns more about himself and the Soul of the World, he comes closer and closer to realizing his destiny and how to get there and it becomes more difficult.

Soon the two men enter into an area of tribal warfare. Warriors hold the two men captive, So tribal Commander asked to transform him into wind and  Santiago is indeed able to transform himself into the wind as he connected with soul of god, becoming the mightiest windstorm in anyone's memory. The alchemist is pleased, the tribal commander is impressed, and Santiago is relieved; his life is spared and he can continue to pursue his Personal Legend and find the hidden treasure. The alchemist tells Santiago that he needs to return to the oasis, and that the rest of the trip is Santiago's to make alone so that he can claim his Personal Legend.

Santiago arrives at the Egyptian pyramids and begins to dig. He finds nothing buried in the ground. Thieves beat Santiago and rob him of his money given by Alchemist. After he tells them of his dream, though, one of the thieves recounts his own dream about a buried treasure  of an abandoned church.
After the thieves depart, Santiago sits up and starts laughing. After returning to Andalusia He digs where he slept, beneath a sycamore tree, and finally find the treasure



At the End the most impressing For me, The Alchemist has taught us  "Your dreams are always close to your heart, but life will make you face obstacles and push you to travel through deserts aimlessly before you can realize that."

To kill a mocking bird

To kill a Mocking bird is the novel by author Harper Lee. Its is the book which deals with racism, injustice, courage ,tolerance and as well as standing for what is right .In novel Atticus Finch,pantagonist, has served as a moral hero for many readers and as a model of lawyers.There was news that it is a Harper Lee autobiography but she refused .She shows there is some people who fight for justice even irrespective racism.


The story covers 3 years (1933-1935), A 6years old girl Jean Louise Finch(Scout), who lives with her brother,Jem and widowed father, Atticus,who is lawyer in the fictitious  town of Maycomb,Alabama (small city) .Atticus upbring his children by himself and housekeeper Calpurnia. Children were always busy in solving the mysterious neighbor Arthur Radley(Boo). Jem and Scout having a friend Dill who use to visit Maycomb to stay with his aunt in each summer vacations. So all the three children become obsessive and more fascinated by Boo ,who never comes outside the road.They became so anxious to know about Boo Radley so they try to ask it about so many people but they hesitate to talk about him.  Therefore they used to imagine different different views about him even about his appearance and also the reason behind hidden in his house and so many times they try to get him out of his house. but Boo is mysterious for them. In Second Summer ,Dill,Scout and Jem find small gifts under the tree for them outside the Radley house .Actually Boo wants to show his affection to children but he never .
Once Atticus was appointed to defend Tom Robinson, a black man who was been  accused of raping and beating a young white girl,Mayella Ewell .So many people were against of Atticus for defending nigger. even Scout and Jem have to face so many taunt from other children by calling them nigger-lover and Scout have fight with children also. Scout stand up for her father respect even Atticus told not to even Jem also loses his temper. At the time of Atticus dont want to see his child in trial but Jem Dill and Scout manage to watch from balcony. Atticus proves that the accusers Mayella and her father, Bob Ewell, the drunkard are lying.  and he told that  the  Mayella made sexual advances toward Tom, and that her father caught her and beat her. Despite significant evidence of Tom's innocence, the jury convicts him. Inspite of Conviction,Ewell  vows to take revenge from Atticus. SO finally he attacks Scout and Jem while they are returning from School Halloween pageant. Jem's one arm broken in the fight.As Scout was in Halloween dressed so she saw someone saved them and carrying back to their house.
Sheriff Tate arrives and discovers that Bob Ewell has died under the tree where children were attacked. Then Scout realizes that stranger is none other than Boo Radley, and that Boo is actually responsible for killing Ewell, thus saving her and Jem's lives.Atticus accepts the sheriff's story that Ewell simply fell on his own knife. Boo asks Scout to walk him home, and after she says goodbye to him at his front door he disappears again.

The moral of the story is whenever it comes to justice or what is right you should have enough courage to fight against it irrespective of racism or any other social inequality.Events and situation makes children innocence to maturity .Mocking bird is all about true goodness and innocence that should be protected .

The Kite Runner

The Kite Runner, author Khaled Hosseini wrote after when he heard a news about Talban had banned kite flying in Afghanistan in 1999.The book is all about guilt,redemption,betrayal , class issue,jealousyand love between father and son.It is an historical novel about the pre-Russian invasion and pre-Taliban rule of Afghanistan, as well life in Afghanistan under Taliban rule and life in a post-Taliban Afghanistan.Actually  The Kite Runner is a bildungsroman that also shows how the two country are similar and dissimilar and even differences in culture.


So the story starts with two boys Amir (rich Pastun boy) and Hassan (a hazara).Amir is the son of a rich merchant believes that his father blames him for his mother death who died at the time of giving birth to  Amir wheras Hassan along with his father ,Ali,were servants to Amir and his father,Baba,who love both the boys but Amir feels jealous of this..Though unequal in status but both are close and inseparable. Once Babba  talked to his closest friend Rahim Khan abouhis concerns with his son's lack of courage and strength. At the time of kite flying tournament in  ,Amir won the match and finally earns Baba's praise.Hassan runs for the last cut kite , a bigger trophy ,and says to Amir "For you, a thousand times over". However, after finding the kite, Hassan encounters Assef(old boy) on the way and Hassan refuses to give up the kite, and Assef beats him severely and rapes him. Amir witnesses the act but is too scared to save him.As he was busy in thinking to win the kite and Baba will be proud of him. He feels incredibly guilty but knows his cowardice behavior will destroy his Baba's love and affection, so he keeps quiet about the incident. Afterwards, Amir keeps distant from Hassan; his feelings of guilt prevent him from interacting with him.So he played a trick to exile Hassan from home by putting watch and some money inside his mattress. But Hassan falsely confesses to Baba and Baba forgives him . But anyway Hassan and Ali leave.
In Second Part
After few years passed ,Amir and Baba escape to Peshawar,Pakistan and then to Fremont ,California as the Soviet Union militarily intervenes in Afghanistan. Baba begins work at a gas station and after graduation Amir took classes. Amir fall in love with Soraya Taheri. As Baba was suffering from cancer therefore he convinced Soraya'father for their marriage. Shortly After some days of  marriage baba die. Amir and Soraya settle happily but came to know that thwy will never have child.
One day ,Amir received a call Rahim khan and asked Amir to come Peshawar.So from Rahim Khan ,Amir came to know that Ali was died and Hassan and his wife were killed in saving Baba's house and he also came to know that Hassan was his half-brother ,he was son of Baba.Rahim asked Amir to save Hassan' son Sohrab. Therefore Amir decides to make thing right . Amir learns  from Farid(taxi driver)that Sohrab is kept at Assef ' house ,where Amir saw Sohrab dressed as a girl and even Assef had raped him also.Assef fights with Amir and Sohrab defends Amir with his father's slingshot that Amir gave to Hassan for his birthday. Amir eventually manages to take him back to the United States. When Amir's father-in-law, General Taheri, questions Amir what he is to tell people why he has taken in a Hazara into his home. Amir stood up to General Taheri, and told him that he was the Sohrab's real uncle and that the General will not refer to Sohrab as that Hazara boy in his presence.Amir's courage and loyalty was tested several times but at last he showed courage

According to me moral of the novel is that you can't run away from your mistakes, and no matter what you will one day face the consequences and will have to accept them. Redemption and forgiving yourself for the thing you have done in past.Fight for your own and others also ,don't be coward.It's better to forgive yourself than doing something that can make you feel so sorry. 

Animal Farm

Animal farm is a satire novella by George Orwell ,Actually the book was written before World War II, Orwell uses the turmoil faced on the farm by the animals as a metaphor for the Russian Revolution of 1917 and and then on into the Stalinist era of the Soviet Union.Not Stalin in particular but totalitarianism is the main point of Orwell. In overthrowing one oppressor (the farmer in Manor Farm,the czar in Russia), the animals/Russians have gained another, but this time more harsher oppressor. According to Orwell revolution can only lead to a change of masters or leader but basically revolution always ended badly for the underdog.

So Story starts ,One night all the animal of Mr Jones' (owner of farm) get together in a barn  to hear Old Major ,a pig  who is about to dies soon and want to tell about his dream that one day all animal live free from the cruel human being. After some days Old Major dies and animals inspired by his philosophy of Animalism and rebel start against Jones and one day Jones and his men chased off from the farm where two pig Snowball and Napoleon play important role.Now Manor farm became Animal farm and there were 7 Commandments of Animalism which are printed on barn wall.

In the starting everything was fine ,As pig were the intelligent among all the other animal so they become supervisors of the farm. Napoleon who was self-centred and want to be higher leader steals so many things and he also enlist Squealer,a pig who used to convince other animal that pigs were always right. One day Jones and his men attack on farm but Snowball through his intelligence retake it. Snowball decided to build windmill for electricity and for animal safety but Napoleon was against of Snowball decision.So one day Snowball decide to vote for windmill but Napoleon leave dogs to Snowball, thereforw Snowball left the farm forever and Napoleon announce no further discussion but he lies that idea of windmill was stolen by Snowball. Much of the year spent on building windmill but contrary to the principle of Animalism ,Napoleon hires a solicitor and begins trading with neighboring farms . Once storm topples half the windmill so Napoleon blamed Snowball for all this.
Napoleon and the pigs move into Jones' house and begin sleeping in beds breaking all the commandments. The animals receive less and less food, while the pigs grow fatter. After the windmill is completed in August, Napoleon sells a pile of timber to Frederick, a neighboring farmer who pays for it with duplicate banknotes. Frederick and his men attack the farm and explode the windmill but are eventually defeated. As more of the Seven Commandments of Animalism are broken by the pigs, the language of the Commandments were changed.
But Boxer strong horse,again offers his strength to help build a new windmill, but in between he was not well so, Napoleon sells the devoted horse to a knacker (a glue-boiler). Squealer tells the other animals that Boxer was actually taken to a veterinarian and died a peaceful death in a hospital.Years pass and Animal Farm expands its boundaries after Napoleon purchases two fields from another neighboring farmer, Pilkington. Life for all the animals except the pigs is harsh. Eventually, the pigs were the higher priority and give so many advantages. The Seven Commandments are reduced to a single law: "All Animals Are Equal / But Some Are More Equal Than Others." Napoleon holds a dinner party for the pigs and local farmers, with whom he celebrates a new coalition. He restores the name "The Manor Farm". As the animals look from pigs to humans, they realise they can no longer distinguish between the two..


A moral of the story is that revolution can lead new leader or government and effect a radical improvement but basically they will do what the previous leader or government had done. If people know how to chuck out their leader then there will be no such problem.As we see in the story when pigs elevate themselves to positions of leadership and set aside special food items If the other animals had had the sense to assert strongly then, it would have been better for all.Actually people are feared of defending the existing social or political issue as they think , this may make their condition more worst.You can’t have a revolution unless you make it for yourself as there is no such thing as a good dictatorship
